Meet:
Sigma Delta Tau
On March 25, 1917, at Cornell University, Sigma Delta Tau was founded. For over 100 years, the sisters of Sigma Delta Tau have been dedicated to promoting our values of individuality, connection, engagement, and community.
With our saying, “One Hope of Many People,” SDT aims to empower members to reach their fullest potential by enriching women’s experiences through shared ideals, building lasting relationships, promoting civic responsibility, and fostering personal growth.
Sigma Delta Tau is also represented by our mascot, the teddy bear; our jewel, lapis lazuli; our flower, the yellow tea rose; and our colors, café au lait and old blue.

Philanthropy
When Sigma Delta Tau was founded, our leaders envisioned the organization as one capable of inspiring its members to take action “worthy of the highest precepts of true womanhood, democracy, and humanity.” Today, more than a century later, Sigma Delta Tau continues to honor that vision by supporting three incredible philanthropic partners: Prevent Child Abuse America, Jewish Women International, and the Sigma Delta Tau Foundation.

For 45 years, Prevent Child Abuse America has helped lay the groundwork to ensure great childhoods for children nationwide. Since 1952, the sisters of Sigma Delta Tau have played a major role in helping the organization achieve its mission of creating a world where no child is ever abused or neglected. At Binghamton, the Gamma Alpha chapter hosts a fun bowling competition each year, featuring a large raffle and great prizes, to raise money for PCAA.

Jewish Women International (JWI) is the leading Jewish organization dedicated to empowering women and girls by preventing domestic violence and sexual abuse, addressing the intersection of domestic violence and gun violence, building pathways to long-term security, and strengthening access to leadership in our communities, workplaces, and beyond. At Binghamton, we host an exciting and engaging food competition to support JWI and its mission.
The Sigma Delta Tau Foundation i
s committed to empowering sisters to grow both personally and professionally. Through annual scholarship opportunities, funding for educational programs, and generous charitable giving from alumnae, collegians, and friends, the Foundation plays a vital role in the continued development of our members. Each year, we strive to raise as much money as possible to support our sisters through this important fund.
