Meet:
Zeta Tau Alpha
Zeta Tau Alpha was founded at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, on October 15, 1898. ZTA was established by nine women who sought to build a sisterhood that would help them grow into better women.
They chose key values to guide this mission: lifelong learning, leadership, responsibility, being rather than seeming, service and philanthropy, seeking understanding that we might gain true wisdom, humility, loyalty and commitment, and love.
Zeta Tau Alpha has 259 chapters nationwide and a strong alumnae network that supports sisters throughout their lives. The official colors of ZTA are turquoise blue and steel gray, and ZTA’s patron is Themis, the goddess of divine justice and law.

Philanthropy
Zeta Tau Alpha’s national philanthropy is breast cancer education and awareness. One in eight women in the United States are diagnosed with breast cancer, and as a sorority, we have the goal of working to make that one in eight become none in eight.

Every October, we host Think Pink Week. Throughout the week, we run a variety of events. Past events have included a bouquet sale, a pop-up thrift shop, working with the Binghamton Police, and partnering with the Binghamton University Club Hockey Team to help “Pink the Rink” and raise awareness for breast cancer.

At the conclusion of the week, we attend the Making Strides Walk. During this event, our sisters have the opportunity to speak with survivors and fighters of breast cancer to hear their stories. This year, we ran a pink-out tent where we gave out tattoos, pink hair spray, and pink hair tinsel!

Each spring, we host a large-scale event to raise money for breast cancer research and a cure. On a national level, we are partnered with the NFL, the American Cancer Society, and Bright Pink. Over the past two years, Zeta Tau Alpha has raised over $6 million nationwide to help fight breast cancer.

This cause is especially meaningful to our sisters, many of whom have a family member or friend diagnosed with breast cancer. We are proud to make a difference in their lives through the funds we raise.
